Job Title & Description: Mechanical Engineer

This role presents an opportunity for a driven individual to take charge of the mechanical aspects of our product launch and scale up. Ekidna Sensing currently has a beta version of its potency testing platform but is now in the process of scaling up for market adoption. The successful individual will focus on iterative improvement and consolidation of the product’s design during the transition into mass manufacturing (from 10’s of products per month to 1000’s). Assisting in the upcoming mechanical design needs of Ekidna, as well as day-to-day mechanical support of the company are also important aspects of the role. We are looking for a hands-on individual who is excited to be involved in many aspects of the company, as being a small team, you must wear many hats. Involvement in R&D, participation in customer pilot trials, and IP generation are just a few examples of the opportunities Ekidna can offer the successful candidate.

We have developed a rapid, accurate, and portable cannabis testing solution to help licensed producers eliminate production bottlenecks, reduce operational costs, and bring their products to market faster. Responsibilities

  • Design of product parts in CAD for FDM and injection molding
  • Operation and maintenance of FDM printers, produce prototype manufacturing runs in house
  • Full-cycle product design and testing. Interact with R&D and marketing team on product design – translate their needs & findings to designs
  • Test of prototypes with fluids in a controlled wet lab environment
  • Design, test, author, and maintain manufacturing and QA protocols and technical documents
  • Work and communicate with manufacturers, suppliers, and other key partners

 

Requirements/Experience

  • Bachelor/Masters degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic, Biomedical or similar program
  • Must have experience with the SolidWorks suite of CAD software. A functional understanding of the built-in analysis packages, maintaining BOMs, configurations, and drawings within SolidWorks is necessary
  • Proven experience working with and designing for FDM 3D printers
  • Experience sourcing components, maintaining BOMs, and writing technical documentation
  • Strong personal management skills and initiative. Must be able and willing to learn and adapt to changing requirements and job demands in the fast pace environment of a startup
  • Experience with QA/QC & statistics is an asset, especially in a manufacturing environment
  • Background in GD&T is an asset
  • Background in injection molding design and manufacturing is an asset
  • Preference for candidates with a portfolio showing various professional and personal projects
  • Work in Ottawa, Ontario with regular presence in lab/design facilities.
